(More customer reviews)I was replacing a ancient Inox, Made in Western Germany 4-way grater that had served us well for close on 35 years. I like the flat, 4-way graters on one utensil, easy to store and keep at hand. However, Inox has now gone Chinese and I try to avoid Made in China.
I had looked and looked for a replacement. I was please to find this fine Fissler. Definitely a solid, high quality, Made in Germany, utensil but I expected the large grater to be sharper. The slicer is fine, the small grater is fine, but the large grater did not grate carrot all that fast, hence the loss of one star. I don't know what the "magic" is in the product title, Germans seem to like that word on their utensils.

(More customer reviews)This is a lifesaver in my eyes. I love cappucino, and chocolate shavings are a must for me. With this grater, perfect little chocolate curls are just a few seconds away. I also use a lot of lemon and orange zest in my cooking, and this is perfect for easy grinding of citrus peels. It is absolutely wonderful for grating spices and cheeses over your entrees instead of having to fight with a larger, more traditional grater. It even works to help mince garlic!

(More customer reviews)It's very tall for a grater, and the knob on the top fits right into you palm, and it makes grating very easy. I've had this for over a year now.., no sign of rust or aging. It's held up well.., no dents or dings and the black feet and top are holding up just fine.
I'd easily say this is the best grater I've ever had. It's very simple, yet very practicle. The way it's in a pyramid shape.., I haven't shredded a knuckle yet. I like the sizes of the holes.., I shred a lot of ginger and it works really well for that. (Hint, if you're going to shred ginger get a big hunk, rub off the peel with a spoon, (yes really, it works), and then freeze it before you shred it)

Norpro Mandoline Slicer Grater with Guard Review

(More customer reviews)This is by far the best value when it comes to a mandoline slicer. You get a bunch of different cutting blades, and the thin/thick stick slicers rotate up from underneath, which is very convenient. They even have a plastic shield that can be popped open for cleaning, but keeps your fingers from getting cut otherwise.
I bought a steel glove to use instead of the safety holder, but the safety holder is really well made and I suspect would work just fine. The citrus juicer addon seems kind of a strange thing to even build into a slicer -- like attaching a pasta strainer to a toaster. Yes, they're both used in the kitchen, but that's where their similarities end.
I'm very happy with this purchase; it's a well-made slicer and everything worked exactly as it should. The workmanship is solid; it doesn't feel flimsy at all. It fit over the edge of a bowl and made quick work of everything I ran across it. It even lets me (with the glove anyway) cut down to a very small sliver of potato skin -- so there wasn't much waste. It was also a breeze to clean which is important to me.
It would be nice if there was an organizer to keep all the plates in one place, though. I used a small plastic shoe-box sized container to toss them into, and that works, but would love to see something designed for it.

Microplane 40020 Classic Zester/Grater Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this after spending 2 hours zesting limes for a gourmet cookie recipe with the traditional potato-peeler+ food processor method. The most time consuming part is carefully scraping way all the white pith on the inside of the peel. The pith is very bitter and can ruin your recipe. This zester did the same job in 30 seconds and didn't even touch the pith. Just pure, perfect lime zest with no effort. Totally worth its weight in gold. Now I can make those cookies again without my hands cramping up after hours scraping the peels. Who has time for that?
I've also started using it for grating parmesan. Definately takes Ceaser salads and pasta up a notch. I'm purchasing several more as gifts for my friends. Would make an incredible (and cheap) holiday/birthday gift for anyone, even the casual cook. Please note that the size of the grated zest or cheese is very fine and not ideal as a garnish. Parmesan or Romano grated with this tool melts quickly into the pasta, and doesn't lend much to the presentation. Tastes great, but hard to see. If you're looking for a garnishing tool, this is not it.

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent little grater that comes with almost everything you would want for a small jobs. The single negative is that the graters do not snap info the base-they lie loose and occasionally dislodge when grating hard items.
The one thing missing - a lid for the base to store leftovers.
