Oster 4861 blender food processor accessory. Review

Oster 4861 blender food processor accessory.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This attachment came with my blender, and I'd call it a chopper rather than a food processor (there is no top load to add stuff while you are mixing, or top blade for slicing) but it's a very capable chopper. I got rid of my big bulky food processor and put this under the counter, saves me tons of space. As a chopper, it's excellent. The blades may look small, but they perform well. Luckily I haven't dropped mine, so can't comment on the durability of them. But it doesn't look very heavy duty in contrast with the jar that came with the blender itself - which is glass and very nice.
My only recomendation would be to look at getting the attachment that has the top loader. It costs more, but I often find myself adding stuff to this chopper and having to stop and twist off the top to do it. It's a little more work is all. Unfortunately if you want the top/slicer grator from Oster, the only one I found was the one that comes with the Fusion model. It looks like an excellent combo, but I'm not ready to upgrade my blender at the moment and unfortunately it doesn't look like Oster sells that food processor attachment seperately.
Anyway, if you just want a chopper then get this one and save a few bucks. Just don't drop it!

KitchenAid KFPM770 Food Processor, Brushed Nickel Review

KitchenAid KFPM770 Food Processor, Brushed Nickel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this food processor a few weeks ago and am so pleased! I previously had the Kitchenaid professional 11 cup model and this one is sooo much better! It's amazing what increasing the size by just one cup does! I had this chocolate tofu pie recipe that never quite got blended in my old processer because it was too thick and heavy, but it blends to the smoothest consistency in this one. I no longer have to break it up into batches! Plus, the extra large feed tube is a definate improvement over the older smaller versions. And this one doesn't jump around on my countertop like my older one did a bit. This one just seems REALLY solidly built. Don't get me wrong, Kitchenaids older versions were also the best for their time, this one is just even better!
The design of this model is also very sleek and I'm no longer emberassed having my processor on my countertop.
Please note, this brushed nickel model also comes with an egg wisk, a citrus juicer attachment and an extra work bowl, which don't come with the other models. I noticed this wasn't mentioned in Amazon's description but it should be. That alone justifies the slightly higher price, in addtition to the beautiful stainless finish and larger feed tube.

Pyrex Prepware 2-Quart Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements Review

Pyrex Prepware 2-Quart Measuring Cup, Clear with Red Measurements
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Posted elsewhere and added here for others:
New measuring cups are heavier because it's NOT PYREX anymore! After 1998, when Corning Glass stopped making Pyrex. (Think fiberoptics and bankruptcy, etc.) They sold off their 'household' glassmaking and it reformed as World Kitchen. PYREX is borosilicate glass and very resistant to wear and chip and cracking due to exposure to heat or quick changes in temperature. This is why Pyrex and Kimax other borosilicate glasses are used for chemistry glassware. (Timex was to watches as these were to chemlabware! Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!) Corning has licensed the name of 'Pyrex' to World Kitchen, but nothing else about it is 'corning glass'. (As an aside - Corning made great glass - of all kinds. A world-beater in their day. Management screwed them over going down the wrong economic road. Do check out their lovely glass museum in Corning, NY!) NOW, World Kitchen makes their 'pyrex' measuring cups out of ordinary soda-lime glass (kitchen drinking glass type). This is NOT safe to expose to heat changes!!!! (Think wear safety goggles - like you WERE working in a CHEM LAB!) I suspect that soda-lime glass is denser than borosilicate, but the actual measure wall thickness may be different now than before, and, thus, this accounts for some of the weight difference. If you want my opinion - find 'vintage' Pyrex Measuring Cups somehow and they will last multiple lifetimes. I have one of my mom's and she has two of her mom's measures. My new ones cannot hold a candle to the old ones (30 to 60 years old) and aren't worth a tinker's damn. Happy times in the kitchen!

Lenox Tuscany Classics Stainless Steel Ice Bucket Review

Lenox Tuscany Classics Stainless Steel Ice Bucket
Average Reviews:

This ice bucket is outstanding in quality. It looks much nicer than I saw online and is of high quality. Slightly smaller than I thought but I am very happy. It holds one gallon of water for those who need some kind of measurment since no site gives that info.

Lee's Wooden Corn Cutter Review

Lee's Wooden Corn Cutter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used a Lee corn cutter for years in preparing fresh sweet corn for freezing. First you blanch the cobs for five minutes, then cool in cold water for the same time, let drain, and cut the kernels off into a bowl, holding the corn cutter horizontal over the bowl with one end against a vertical wall (obviously best done on a counter, not an island). By adjusting the height of the two cutter edges you can cut clean kernels off, or (our favorite) cream-style, scraping all the delicious juice as well as the kernels. Freeze in boxes or bags and enjoy pure golden goodness in the middle of the winter -- your holiday guests will love you. These cutters are so simple and obvious, I'm always surprised that folks are still struggling with knives and other less easy-to-use gadgets. Buy a couple extra for gifts -- folks who see me use it (or the results!) always wish they had one.

Back to Basics 176 Canning Funnel Review

Back to Basics 176 Canning Funnel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't know why I lived without it! It sits beautifully in the mouth of the jar and the wide hole lets the food fall right into the jar like it wasn't there. Ladles seem to know just when to drip so it hits the side of the jar. You can almost hear them laughing at you. This funnel ends that! No more food running down the side of the canning jar. No more messy, sticky rims that need to be carefully cleaned before placing the lid. And it cleans very easily. I highly recommend it.

Progressive International Set of 6 Chopping Mats Review

Progressive International Set of 6 Chopping Mats
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These aren't the most durable, but they do last through quite a few uses. The colors are cheerful, and they work fine. Their thin shape makes them easy to store. You can even curl them in your hands to make a sort of funnel to easily dump the chopped food into a pot. Nice item, and a bargain. And you can clean them in the dishwasher.
Recommended, but with these limitations: (1) Because they are so thin, you don't want to put anything hot onto them -- they will warp. (2) Because they are so light, they can slide around the counter. These limitations eventually made me switch to much more expensive, thick, rubber-footed cutting boards -- but only after a long period using these with good results.

This handy and plentiful set of 6 chopping mats helps prevent cross contamination through color and picture coding. The set includes four colored 11-by-15-inch flexible mats and two bonus 7-1/2-by-11-inch clear mats. Use the red for meat, yellow for poultry, green for vegetables, and blue for fish. Made from polypropylene, these mats protect countertops and roll up for easy storage. Plus, they are safe to clean in the dishwasher.

Progressive International Over the Sink Cutting Board Review

Progressive International Over the Sink Cutting Board
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This cutting board is very functional and convenient for over the sink food preparation. The only complaints I have is that the strainer does not snap securely on during use, it just sits on top so it is very easily knocked off or wobbly with food in it. Also it is shorter than I imagined, if you have a double sink than it would fit perfectly otherwise the board only takes up half the sink while the other half is the extended handle bar. All in all it is a great cutting board and I am glad to have it.

Back to Basics Jar Lifter Review

Back to Basics Jar Lifter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I looked for ages in my city (Tucson, AZ - not a small town!) trying to find one of these. I guess I live in a place where people just don't can anymore because it was nearly impossible to find one. Amazon to the rescue! This jar lifter does what it says - it lifts jars out of boiling water baths and keeps you from getting burned. The hand grips are nice, the section that wraps around the jar are nice and soft to prevent breaking the jars when you lift them, and the tongs are long enough to keep your hands sufficiently far from the water. My only problem with this product is I have short fingers and it's hard to grab the jars with one hand since the tongs have to open so far to fit around the jars. I just use my other hand and it isn't really a problem. Besides, this is something that is common to all jar lifters as opposed to just this one. If you're into canning and need supplies, this jar lifter will do the trick. It's not fancy and it's not expensive, but it does the job.

Progressive International Magnetic Measuring Cups Review

Progressive International Magnetic Measuring Cups
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received these measuring cups for Christmas, as I had requested them after using the magnetic measuring spoons. I love that they match the spoons perfectly (and I love the colors), and that they stay together without the ring and fit perfectly in the drawer. It is great to only have to wash the cup/spoon I use without a hassle. I find that there are just enough sizes for what is needed for cooking (I've never seen a measuring cup set that included a 3/4 cup and don't find it necessary anyway- there's a half cup and a quarter cup included- with some simple math, measuring 3/4 cup is quite easy).

Progressive International 5-Piece Set Collapsible Measuring Cups Review

Progressive International 5-Piece Set Collapsible Measuring Cups
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'd been working with only a liquid measuring cup for too long, so I bought these because I knew they'd fit in my drawers. I wasn't sure how sturdy they would be, but I'm not worried about that now that I've used them for a couple months. When they're expanded, you might not even know they're collapsible. And there are only two possible positions--collapsed and expanded--so it's not like they will give different measurements if you somehow mangle them (something I had been irrationally concerned about).
The magnets are a nice touch, I suppose, but only the 1/4 and 1/3 cups are light enough to stay put on my fridge, so the other three sit in the drawer sticking to my measuring spoons.
Edit: The lettering on the measuring cups was pretty much unreadable after about a year, so I have to compare the sizes to tell which is which. Still love 'em, though.

Fat Daddio's 9 Inch x 5 Inch x 2 3/4 Inch Loaf Pan Review

Fat Daddio's 9 Inch x 5 Inch x 2 3/4 Inch Loaf Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For quite a while I've been looking for wide loaf pan with straight sides. If you've ever seen Aunt Millie's "hearth" breads you know what kind of shape I have in mind. This pan is the closest thing. The sides are not quite straight - it is about quarter inch wider on top then it is on the bottom, and it is nowhere near promised 2 3/4" in height, 2 3/8" is more like it, but it fits the bill. The construction is not particularly sturdy - it is made of 1 mm aluminum, so I expect it will get its fair share of dings with time. I also would not dream of baking bread in it without thoroughly greasing the walls - just for a test, I left an ungreased spot the first time I used it and had hell of time extracting the bread from the pan. One other thing to note is that it is slightly smaller than regular 9x5 pan, 55 vs. 64 oz, so some recipes might need to be adjusted.
So this loaf pan has its issues, but all in all I am pretty happy with it.

Presto Pressure Cooker Sealing Ring/Overpressure Plug Pack (4 & 6 Quart) Review

Presto Pressure Cooker Sealing Ring/Overpressure Plug Pack (4 and 6 Quart)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I keep a small supply of these on hand because, even though my two Presto pressure cookers are only three months old, the gaskets do not last very long and scalding liquids seep out from under the cover--making a real mess on my countertops.
These gaskets are made in China, according to the packaging that comes with them, and I suspect that they are not made as well as those that were produced in the U.S. in the "good-old days."
I am thankful that they are available through Amazon.com, and are usually shipped out relatively quickly. If you're going to use pressure cookers, you do need to keep a supply on hand, IMO.

Very happy with this product. The consistancy is PERFECT for salsa, I have used it twice with perfect results. My husband suggested I try it for tomato sauce as he likes a hearty, thick semi-chunky sauce. So I tried if for that too, and the sauce came out thick like puree after cooking. Highly recommended, great time saver.

Don't like seeds in your berry jam?
Have diverticulosis?
This is what you need. It removes virtually all the seeds, and quickly.
The gadget you attach it to is a food strainer. There are several choices of sieve screens, for fine (this one) to coarse (salsa).
To prepare apples, just remove the blossom end and stems. Cook, sieve, done. For tomato juice or sauce, quarter and cook, then sieve. Ready to can or cook down to sauce. It really saves time.

RealFruit Low or No Sugar Needed Pectin, 4.7 oz Review

RealFruit Low or No Sugar Needed Pectin, 4.7 oz
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have made over 35 different batches of low-sugar jams and marmalades in the past couple of years. I decided to purchase this product (the 4.7oz jar) because I often don't use a whole packet at a time. The label states that this is a "new formula". 4 batches later and this new formula makes sauce (like applesauce), not jam. There is no gelling effect with the use of this product whatsoever. I'm going to have to go back to Sure-Gel, re-open all of my jars, toss all the lids I've used, and loose a good bit of jam in the re-heating process. I'm incredibly peeved.
