Graniteware 16 Quart Preserving Kettle Review

I looked the Internet over & finally found just what I was looking for. Knowing the right name for an item is really a plus. A preserving kettle, was a lot different from a jelly pan or jelly pot. Oh well, I got my preserving kettle & have been very well pleased with it. Will gladly recommend this site to anyone.

Victorio VKP1055 Stainless Steel Dual-Use Steam or Water Bath Canner Review

Victorio VKP1055 Stainless Steel Dual-Use Steam or Water Bath Canner

I have been involved with canning for nearly 50 years. I've used a lot of water bath and pressure canners. This was my first experience with a steam canner, although steam canning had been recommended to me several years ago. My friend told me she used to have a stainless steel steam canner but now all she can find is aluminum, so when I saw this I said, "OK, let's give it a try." I know the Victorio name from their juicer, and it's a quality company. True to my expectations, this canner lives up to the Victorio name. It is heavy-duty 18/8 gauge stainless steel, has excellent instructions for both steam and water-bath canning. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and extremely durable. The gauge on top is accurate, folks, and takes the guesswork out of when to start the timing. Eight jars at once (while steam canning) is marvelous! I've done several loads of peaches today in this pot and I won't go back to water bath for anything! This is a beautiful, economical, multi-use canning pot and I'm going to love owning and using it year after year. My only regret is that I didn't have it years ago when I was doing much more canning for my family! It's more expensive than the aluminum Back to Basics brand canner, but I'm glad I spent the extra because I know I'll love this dual-pot a lot more than just the single-function Back to Basics. Back to Basics cookware is good (I own some), but in this case, the Victorio wins the prize.

Back to Basics 400A 7-Quart Aluminum Home Steam Canner Review

Back to Basics 400A 7-Quart Aluminum Home Steam Canner

I have been canning for 20 years, I have had this canner system for 15 and I will not ever go back to boiling water bath canning ever again. This canner is not meant to replace a pressure canner for low acid foods. It is a shallow pan with a rack and a large lid. The shallow pan is filled with water and boiled, the rack fits over the boiling water and the jars are put on the rack (7 quarts at a time). When the water boils, it creates steam- steam is at least 212 degree water- steam can actually get hotter than boiling water. When the steam is at a certain level (in the instructions) you begin timing your jars. The reason that this is so easy is that it doesn't take 20 minutes after you put your jars into the rack just to come back to a boil, thus saving a lot of time. I highly recommend this product. I just made salsa and it took me 30 minutes for 14 jars- In a traditional pot it would have taken at least 2 hours. That is the difference!

A smart alternative to the water-bath canning method, this generously sized canner harnesses the power of steam to quickly preserve freshly harvested fruits and vegetables, using less water and saving both time and energy. The 7-quart unit's shallow water pan features a removable rack, which holds up to seven pint- or quart-size jars--great for large batches of jam, canned beans, applesauce, and more. Equipped with air holes for proper ventilation, the canner's large dome fits easily over the jars, and it can be inverted for use as a 15-quart kettle when the canning season ends.
Made of durable rust-resistant aluminum, the canner provides a beautiful, gleaming addition to any kitchen collection, plus ensure years of long-lasting high-quality performance. Both the pan and dome sport cool-touch side handles for safe, secure handling and transport, and they clean up easily by hand with hot, soapy water. A user manual and recipes come included. Not recommended for use on a glass-top stove, the 7-quart steam canner measures approximately 13 by 13-1/5 by 9-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
