NOSTALGIA COCKTAIL SHAKER Review

NOSTALGIA COCKTAIL SHAKER
Average Reviews:

I got this for my birthday recently and while it seemed like a cool idea, the gimmick wore off when I realized it was unnecessary. I understand that people want to play god by making small tornadoes, but unfortunately these little tornadoes can also be accomplished by twirling your hand in a clockwise motion. Yes call me old fashioned but I dont need the robots to turn my drinks for me. The batteries die quick, so lets see.. I can save money on batteries by gently turning my hand. They have these things at Bath and Body Works, and all those kind of stores for $10, for $10 I would buy it if you need a shaker, but dont buy it for the gimmick, as it so unnecessary.
One positive note, It can destroy your iphone if Steve Jobs doesn't give us some decent features soon.

Magic Bullet 7921 Platinum Pro 20-Piece Set, Stainless Steel Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
.
I M P O R T A N T.....UPDATE: 14TH MARCH, 2011:
Just for fun, I went to the official website of the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro, and wanted to see if they were still selling it in a "2 for 1" deal, the second machine at a reduced price. They still have the vitamins and other extras one can get for the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro.....BUT IMAGINE MY ASTONISHMENT, WHEN I CLICKED ON THE "BUY" BUTTON, TO DISCOVER THE MESSAGE THAT ---- THEY ARE NO LONGER PRDDUCING THE MAGIC BULLET PLATINUM PRO, AND DIRECTING ME TO BUY THE (MUCH MUCH INFERIOUR), REGULAR MAGIC BULLET! Amazing to me, as the Platinum Pro is SO much better than the Original Magic Bullet!
So, if you want a MAGIC BULLET PLATINUM PRO system, I advise you to buy it here on Amazon, (where it was cheaper, last time I looked, than on a well-known, but chancy, auction site).
PLEASE CALL UP HOMELAND HOUSEWARES AND TELL THEM YOU WNAT THE (SUPERIOUR) MAGIC BULLET PLATINUM PRO PRODUCED AGAIN -- EVEN IF THEY HAVE TO STOP MAKING THE (VERY INFERIOUR), REGULAR MAGIC BULLET TO DO SO! (I intend to do this myself, tomorrow, this being a Sunday.....)
.....................................................................................
"P R O S" OF THE PLATINUM PRO:
It's a bit bigger than the regular Magic Bullet -- but it will
still fit onto even the smallest counter-top. The "Party Mug" containers are indeed larger, (20 oounces) than those within the regular Magic Bullet system (16 ounces)...and actually hold as much as the "large container" of the regular Magic Bullet). The "large container" of the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro holds a whopping 26 ounces!
(The "small container" of the "Platinum Pro" holds 16 ounces, the "small container" of the regular Magic Bullet holds 10 ounces.) All the containers included with the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro have wider "mouths" than the previous model, and this makes it easier to pour food in. The wider width also makes the containers easier to hand-wash if you want to hand-wash.....although all containers in the Platinum Pro, (as in the regular Magic Bullet) are machine washable too.
(One trick I have learnt from watching commercials for other, far more expenisve blenders: ANY blender container can easily be washed by simply wiping it out, putting in a few drops of dishwashing detergent and some WARMISH water, and then letting the machine spin the container clean!)
This machine is POWERFUL! Those extra 100 watts really do help! When I wtried to make tuna salad in my regular Magic Bullet, the mixture stuck. When I used the same receipe in the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro, I got a professional looking, semi-smooth pate!
"C O N S" of the Platinum Pro:
My major complaint about the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro is that the "mouths" of the containers are actually a bit TOO wide! At almost 3 1/2 inches in diameter, they would be difficult for someone with arthritis or other physical impairment to screw and unscrew tightly. (And if you don't screw the container on tightly, leaks will often occur.)
So, I use only the "Party Mugs", which have handles, and so make screwing and unscrewing easier. I don't dare use the "large cup" or "small cup" for the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro, as these containers do NOT have handles, and would often be impossible, (or nearly so), for me to screw and unscrew. Of course, a screw-unscrewing aid is useful -- but it's not included here and must be bought separately.
I have not used the blender attachment yet....but, as it has a handle, I expect no trouble with it. I do get to wondering, however, why the "Magic Bullet Platinum Pro" DOESN'T have a "Juicer" attachment, as does the regular Magic Bullet. My own regular Magic Bullet blender broke before I could use the juicer attachment, (more on why this happened, below)....and my sister, who had a regular Magic Bullet before I bought one, says she had no luck with the juicer attachment. Still, it would be very nice if the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro came with a juicer attachment.
My regular Magic Bullet base broke. This happened unexpectedly, when the integrated center section, (that attaches to the blade assemblies), suddenly shattered into four pieces! Astonished and saddened, I wondered why this had happened.....and after some thought, discovered the reason.
IT IS IMPORTANT WHEN USING A L L 'PERSONAL BLENDERS' THAT THE USER
W A I T.. FOR A FEW MOMENTS, AFTER THE BLENDER HAS STOPPED WORKING, TO REMOVE THE CONTAINER. That way, the "spinning" of the integrated center section (which attaches to the blade assemblies) stops spinning....and the two sections can easily be separated. Otherwise, the four parts of the integrated central section are "pushed apart" ever so slightly, every time one removes the container.....until the fly off altogether.
Also, this blender -- although having 100 watts more power -- (and more than adequate...as was the original Magic Bullet blender....to make smoothies, milkshakes, etc.) -- still will not whip milk, (even whole milk) into whipped topping, still is not powerful enough to whip potatoes, and -- in the instruction booklet -- still are listed the "tapping" and "shaking" techniques for getting stuck food out. (The "liquifying" technique I have devised -- which is also listed in my review of "The Magic Bullet"....that of adding either water, milk, juice, or another liquid compatible with the mixture, to thin it out so that the machine can handle it without getting food stuck -- works well for the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro, too. But SHOULD they be, with this "Platinum Pro" model? (They aren't with the larger, conventional blenders and food processers.) Though small, and handy, and replete with many containers, the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro still has "only" 350 watts....and not the 500 watts found on many full-size blenders. Still, the containers are far easier to clean than the huge, 48 or more ounce glass containers found on "full-size" machines. And you get 6 of them -- rather than the one conainer given with most larger machines. So this is a trade-off...
So, my suggestion for any future "Magic Bullet Platininum Pro II" machine, (IF it is ever made), would be narrower circumferences on the containers, (and/or handles on the two "bullet cups"), and -- in the words of the TV Show "Home Improvement".....MORE POWER, (Please!) But I sure like having 4 containers (with handles!) given with the machine!
The receipe book given with the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro is full of
scrumptious ideas, and the paper is slick and luxurious. I do wish, however, that there were pictures of each recipie....the only photos are those on the cover, and I have yet to discover, (even with the extensive Table of Contents), which recipie is for the tempting round fish-cake looking treats, shown on the front cover of the receipe booklet.
So....although this machine is more powerful than the original Magic Bullet, there is still much room for improvement. I hope that the next edition of the Magic Bullet Platinum Pro will include the suggestions I have stated here.
Bon Appetite!

Tribest Mason Jar Single Serving Blender Review

Tribest Mason Jar Single Serving Blender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first small blender, and very pleased with the easy to clean drinking/mixing container and low noise level. I own a large blender and recently gave away an expensive juicer after deciding that the Tribest Single Serving Blender is far more practical for my type use. First, the small footprint for this blender is a big plus as it resides on the kitchen countertop ready for instant use. Clean-up relative to the juicer and large blender is a huge time saver, and makes this device extremely versatile and easy for everyday use. It seems well made and durable. A small distraction is that frozen fruit or ice sometimes gets lumped and requires unscrewing the lid and stirring with a spatula (shaking sometimes alleviates this minor problem). Another minor inconvenience is the polycarbonate containers and blade assembly are not dishwasher safe, and must be hand-washed. Overall, however, this is a fantastic kitchen appliance.
Tribest's marketing of it's single serving blenders is a bit confusing. The base motor is the same regardless of which series you decide to purchase (i.e., 200 watt; 1/4 hp), and your decision comes down to accessories you want. The following breakdown may help you:
* PB-100 (2 blender containers & 1 four-prong blender blade; $50 price range)
* PB-200 (same as PB-100 PLUS 2 grinder containers & 1 two-prong grinder blade; $60 price range)
* PB-300 (1/ea. blender & grinder containers instead of 2/ea. w/ PB-200 PLUS 4 glass mason jars & mason jar attachment; $70 price range)
* For more precise details of included accessories, see the following reference sources:[...]
Depending on their marketing channels, the three main series (i.e., PB-100, 200, or 300) may be sold by distributors by another number so carefully check what is included. The bottom line is to purchase the accessories pieces that you think you might use as it will be considerably more costly to buy these separately in the future, especially if having to pay for shipping. For that reason, the $10 price difference between the PB-200 & PB-300 series made it seem sensible for me to buy the Tribest® PB-350 Mason Jar Personal Blender & Grinder as featured here. While I've only used several of the accessories so far, the others are expected to be used as I further explore more possibilities for this time saving blender.
While wondering whether this kitchen gadget would be put to good use, it has far exceeded my expectations. I won't be without one of these small blenders going forward!!

Focus Electrics, LLC BPE3BR Blender Express Review

Focus Electrics, LLC BPE3BR Blender Express
Average Reviews:

I started with this unit, it immediately failed, the company that's absorbed Back to Basics was quick to send me a new one in exchange for my defective one. In the meantime, I picked up the comparably priced Hamilton Beach Personal Blender. I'm now alternating the two every other day.
It's no contest. The Hamilton Beach may be a simpler and lighter, wimpier-looking machine, but it's an infinitely superior design and is deceptively powerful. It's quick, handy, and clean! With the Hamilton Beach, you're not turning the cannister upside down, screwing and unscrewing different covers on it for each use, and best off all there's no spill-over and drippage every time you use it (a good day is one on which, after using the Blender Express, I don't have goopy pants and a sticky car seat by the time I make it to the job).

Hamilton Beach 51101 Personal Blender Review

Hamilton Beach 51101 Personal Blender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The other day I impulsivley went and bought a Hamilton Beach Juicer. When I got it home I hemmed and hawed, wondering if I should use it or not. Did I really want it? I started looking around the internet and realized what I really wanted was something to make smoothies or other fruit concoctions. I researched a few things like the Magic Bullet and Ultimate Chopper but both had mixed reviews. I was tempted to buy the Tribest blender because it had some good reviews here at Amazon but I could only find it online and it's listed at $60 - much more than what I really wanted to spend.
Instead, I went to my local Walmart and to see what they had. I saw the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender and it was priced for only $13.67 so I was interested. It's just me, so I don't need a huge and heavy unit taking up what little counter space I have. I also figured since that if I bought it at Walmart and that if I didn't like it I could easily return it.
I brought it home, looked over the manual and attempted my first smoothie. I threw in milk, strawberries, frozen raspberries and hit the button. I needed to blend it some more because of the raspberries being frozen. Live and learn, I should have done those first. I put in some ice and blended it some more. It came out wonderful!
The jar itself can be used as a serving glass. I probably will only use it in that manner at home. It has no handle so I'd be afraid I'd drop it when I was out. Then the blender would be worthless because the blade is in the jar.
* Jar twists and locks into place on the base
* Comes with a travel lid to take your drink on the go
* Cord wraps around the base
* Not intended for all food - manual says not to process hard foods such as cheese, crackers or meat. A maximum of 12 tablespoons can be ground at a time. Do not try to mash potatoes, mix stiff dough, whip egg whites, grind raw meat or extract juice from fruit or veggies.
* Container cover has filler cap that can be removed to insert small objects when blending
* Can not use big chunks of ice. You need to break them down. I have an ice tray where the shape is a small circle (half ball) and it was fine. Perhaps this is what you can use those holiday themed ice trays for. Some of those sizes which I have seem I think would work in this.
* NOT dishwasher safe - but easy clean up - rinse, put water and soap in jar, blend for a minute, empty, rinse again and you're done.
* No complicated speeds or choices - one push button
* I can't find it on the box or in the manual but according to Amazon, the motor has 175 watts of power
I just went and made another smoothie! Banana, Vanilla soy milk, little bit of chocolate syrup and instant coffee. Yummy!
This one site has TONS of recipes that you can use with this blender. You just have to play with the recipes because a lot of them are meant to be multiple servings.
http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=smoothie
While this might not do what a full size blender can, this is a great blender for smoothies, drinks, shakes and to grind coffee. I love that it's small, the cord wraps around the base and I can use this thing at night and not wake up the neighbors!
I just came back from the grocery store and picked up some more fruit... what else can I make???

No need to lug out the heavy-duty blender for those morning smoothies, protein shakes, or other blended beverages. When you're trying to get out the door in a hurry, this convenient blender offers one-person portions, simple one-touch blending, and durable stainless-steel blades for fast results. Best of all, its 14-ounce blending jar doubles as a travel cup, so you can sip from the same container you blend in, which means less to clean in the end. The portable travel cup includes measuring marks up the side, and it fits most car cup holders for safe, secure transport. A travel lid to drink from and a recipe book are included. Great for at home or on the go, the 175-watt single-serve blender measures 3-3/4 by 3-3/4 by 12-1/2 inches.

Hamilton Beach Single-Serve Blender with 2 Jars and 2 Lids Review

Hamilton Beach Single-Serve Blender with 2 Jars and 2 Lids

This blender is good for the price. You get what you pay for. I paid $15.00 for it to travel with to make smoothies. If you hold down the button too long, there is a little burning smell coming from the motor, so it would be easy to burn it out. I have just blended protein powder, milk, and bananas with this and it has worked well for me. It's better to pulse the start button than to keep it running.

Average Reviews:

I have purchased three of these and I think I am going to purchase another. The last three still work. The first one was designed a little differently, more like the Magic Bullet. The last two are like the picture with the push button. The first I had gotten for my daughter when she moved out. Well she moved back in so I got to use it. I love it for protein shakes. Then I bought two more one for me and one for my sister. Well the son moved out so he got the oldest one. The daughter moved out so she got the one that was here that we were using. The third one was a gift to my sister. Now I don' have one here and I wanted to get away from the three tabs only because sometimes they are hard to slide in. After reading all the reviews I decided that for the price you cannot beat it. It comes with more blending cups than any of the others. Once you get used to using it, you will find out what works and what doesn't. The pulse button is great, just like a large blender you are not supposed to let it run nonstop. Unless the Magic Bullet has changed design you have to turn the whole cup and then turn to stop so hard to pulse. It also has the three tabs. I have used the Magic Bullet so this is from first hand experience.
Pros -
1. Price
2. 300 watt motor
3. Number of cups included
4. Pulse button
5. Customer Service at the company is really good.
Cons
1. Cups are probably not dishwasher safe. I have had some leak in the seam, so I stopped putting them in the dishwasher. I did contact the manufacturer and they did send me two replacement cups (including useless travel lids and gray rings) :) I just had to pay shipping $4.95. They did report the problem so maybe there will be a fix. I also thought it might be caused by the whole ice cubes pulsing against the sides.
Neutral
1. The gray rings, not sure what their purpose is. They are too small to insulate, I don't hold the cup at the top to drink. Don't really get it. Would rather see another cup or a refrigerator lid.
If you are using ice, you have to use a liquid. I don't really think it is loud. if you are crushing ice it will be loud no matter what blender you are using. You only blend for seconds, so no big deal to me.
Now that I have written a novel, I hope that it will help someone choose.

Wolfgang Puck Stainless Steel Immersion Hand Blender and Choppers Review

Wolfgang Puck Stainless Steel Immersion Hand Blender and Choppers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I REALLY wanted to like this blender! I had just sent back the Nesco hand blender because there was a seal on the immersion blender that allowed anything you blended to get trapped underneath it with no way to clean it out. The result was a rotted and liquids that you couldn't clean out.
I was happy to receive this one with all these fancy attachments! But lo, the excitement quickly turned to disgust. The blade attachments for the food processor part of the blender (there are two different ones) has a MAJOR design flaw. There are two holes on the underneath part of the white tube next to the blades. Whenever you blend something, the liquid will seep into the white tube with NO WAY to clean it out. I hadn't even noticed until I was using it for the third time or so and was near a window. When I pulled out the blade to wash it, the light from the window shown through it and I could see food gunked halfway up the tube! Old food! I tried rinsing it out the best I could, but it wouldn't come out. I only got rotted little food bits to come floating out.
It was absolutely DISGUSTING! I would NOT recommend this for that reason alone. It is now unusable. I am mostly disappointed because everything else about this hand blender is amazing and I really enjoyed the little time I had with it. But if I can't even use it anymore, it gets one star...I would give it zero, but Amazon doesn't give you that option.
UPDATE: I thought that the "wand/stick" part of the blender was still usable, but it too has become gunked up. There is a silicon ring (not removable) around the blade. No matter how well you wash it, liquid gets trapped underneath the ring and molds. You can actually SEE the black mold showing through the silicon ring. Gross.

Reduce prep time in the kitchen with help from this handheld immersion blender and related attachments. Equipped with a powerful, yet quiet, 350-watt DC motor, the versatile blender quickly purees soups, blends gravies and batters, mixes ice-cream shakes, blends frozen fruit and ice for party drinks, and much more. The unit's sharp blade provides extremely smooth and even blending, while its protective blade guard helps prevent splattering. In addition, its extra-long stainless-steel neck reaches deep into tall stockpots, pitchers, and bowls for extended blending options, eliminating the need to dirty extra dishes. Best of all, the blender offers comfortable one-handed operation thanks to its lightweight design, ergonomic handle, and soft-touch controls--choose from variable speed settings or the power boost function.
For added convenience, the stainless-steel blending rod detaches, making it possible to connect the handheld unit to the included 7-cup chopper, 7-cup measuring/mixing beaker, 5-cup chopper bowl, or stainless-steel wire whisk. Use the attachments for chopping vegetables to throw onto a homemade pizza, making delicious pesto sauce, blending pancake batter, mixing up fresh salsa, and more. Nonskid bottoms on the beaker and choppers double as lids--simply detach and snap to the top opening for storage. The lids should be washed by hand, but the attachments, bowls, and beaker can go in the dishwasher for quick cleanup. Wolfgang Puck recipes come included. The immersion blender measures approximately 4 by 4 by 15 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Back to Basics BPE3BRAUS Blender Express Plus 11-Piece Mixing System Review

Back to Basics BPE3BRAUS Blender Express Plus 11-Piece Mixing System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's funny, the different experiences people have with the same products. Now, this review is for the Blender Express, not the "Plus." The only difference is the attachments. My wife picked up a couple of these at Wally World after Christmas (2005). They were in a clearance cart for [...] each. I figured that they were probably pretty cheap and I'd have a backup after I burned the first one up. Well, a little over a year later, I'm still using the first one. I use it 3-4 times a week for smoothies and frozen coffee drinks. I have to say that I really abuse the little guy. My coffee drinks call for half of the mug to be filled with crushed ice.
It will make these drinks with a minimum of "crunchy" ice particles and they are quite enjoyable. I never expected it to last this long because, truthfully, from day one, I have been able to notice the "burned wire" odor coming from the unit as I continuosly overload the mug. Yet, it is still chugging along. Even at the full price, a year of this type of useage certainly makes it a good value. And, cleanup is extremely easy and the "make it and run" mug is really handy. Of course, for larger quantities, I fall back on the larger blender. If I ever do wear out both of these units, I would not hesitate to purchase another.
UPDATE: 7/10/2009
Just wanted to add this note. Two and a half years after the above review (makes the unit three-odd years old), we're still using it!!! It still makes the smoothest frozen drinks. I guess we really got lucky with this one. I can't even remember where we put the second one! :)

Hamilton Beach 51101B Personal Blender with Travel Lid, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 51101B Personal Blender with Travel Lid, Black
Average Reviews:

I got this for my 17 year old son to make smoothies. He made the most delicious peach smoothie from ice and the Big Train Fruit Tea Smoothie Blast syrup also bought on Amazon. The consistency was smooth and perfect, just like a professional frozen drink. I asked him to make me one. On the second smoothie the motor died. We thought maybe it needed a little "rest" but sadly, it was the end of the road for that blender. When pressed for details, my son admitted that he noticed a burning smell before the motor stopped dead, and yet he kept pressing that button! Bottom line: great design, lightweight, nice personal cup size, easy storage and cleanup. The motor is just not very powerful, and can't take long blending times. Still, we are going to order a replacement and see if a bit more TLC while blending gives this blender better shelf life. Seems like it worked for some of the other reviewers.
Update: we got the new blender and it is working out great. You just have to be careful to pulse the blender as you go along, and stop for a few seconds (10?) if you start to smell the motor smell. Ice is blended into drinks very well, with no big chunks. The only downside is the no dishwasher requirement. I feel pretty tempted to try it, but as this is already the second blender I will resist.
