Nesco American Harvest JB-50 2-in-1 Juicer/Blender, White with Green Trim Review

Nesco American Harvest JB-50 2-in-1 Juicer/Blender, White with Green Trim
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Nesco 2-in-1 Juicer Blender offers an inexpensive way to enter into the world of juicing for health without breaking the bank. But you may want to invest in a better quality unit since this unit seems very cheesy in construction and performance is lacking in key areas.
On the plus side, having a blender easily accessible while juicing is important since there are certain "dry" fruits and vegetables that don't juice well, like strawberries, avocados and bananas. When making a juice drink you can easily use the blender in addition to the juicer to make a smoothie that lets you incorporate the -non-juicer friendly drier fruits and vegetables.
The 50oz Blender container is glass and quite heavy. The blade assembly does not detach which makes cleaning the blender a dicey affair. The juicer base and juicer components are plastic and feel insubstantial.
I was surprised at how light the base unit was. I have had other blenders that have quite heavy electric motors in them. The lightness of this base/motor makes me feel that the unit is not going to survive hard use. Another caveat is that the User Guide states that the unit should not be operated continuously for more than 3 minutes, with a 30 second cool-down period in between.
The motor unit (base) has two speeds in addition to a pulse mode. The knob that controls the speed/pulse settings is not very easy to turn, particularly in Pulse mode. The base unit has suction cups on the feet to help secure it to your counter and prevent it from sliding while in use.
The blender and juicer each attach to the base by means of plastic clamps, one on either side. The clamps are not very substantial. I can see these breaking very easily if mishandled in any way. Switching the blender to juicer or juicer to blender is a fairly simple process that takes just a moment.
Cleaning the juicer parts is a chore. Pulp collects and sticks to the juice collector and sieve and must be cleaned by hand as none of the parts are dishwasher safe contrary to what the Amazon description states. (see update at end of review)
I made a quick concoction of 3 apples plus 1 pear and it was absolutely delicious. The juicer works well with harder fruits and vegetables, like apples, pears, carrots, and not very well at all with soft things like banannas, papaya, or really fibrous things. The sieve shreds the ingredients and acts as a centrifuge to separate the juice and the pulp, although not very effectively. The juice runs out of the juice collector into the collection container while the pulp collects in both the juice collector and pulp collector. I was not impressed with how much very wet pulp remains in the juice collector.
I like the idea of being able to juice fresh fruits and vegetables for really healthy and quick drinks but this unit is dismal. The included instruction/recipe book includes a good variety of smoothie, blender and juicer recipes but lacks any real information on juicing in general. One of the main benefits of juicing is that fiber in fruits and vegetables is not easily broken down by the human body and therefore some, if not much, of the nutrients "hidden" in the fibre is never extracted by the body and is lost. That is why juicing is beneficial. It extracts more of the nutrients from fruits and vegetables. Then by utilizing the pulp into other recipes like muffins or smoothies, you still get fiber in your diet along with the nutrient dense juice.
Pros:
Convenient way to have a blender and juicer in a single device.
Easy to switch components.
Cons:
Except for the glass blender, everything else is plastic and feels unsubstantial.
The latches in particular seem very fragile and prone to breaking.
Components are not dishwasher safe. Must be washed by hand.
Cannot operate continuously for more than 3-minutes at a time.
Cleaning is a chore.
Pulp extraction is not very effective, leaving lots of very wet pulp in juice collector while ejecting very little dry pulp.
Blades assembly does not detach from blender making cleaning it difficult.
Instruction/Recipe book could be more helpful in explaining how to incorporate juicing into your lifestyle by having more relevant information about juicing. For instance a perfectly valid question would be what to do with all the pulp that is created. Seems a waste to just throw it away , and in fact it is a waste. But you won't learn anything about that in the instruction/recipe book.
UPDATE 4/28/2011: The Amazon Description states that the parts, other than the base unit, are dishwasher safe, however the User Guide clearly states several times about washing the parts and says: "wash in warm soapy water, rinse and dry." Nowhere in the User Guide does it state that parts are dishwasher safe. Nor do the parts themselves have any indication that they are dishwasher safe. Furthermore I called NESCO and was told that unless it is explicitly stated that parts are dishwasher safe, assume they are NOT dishwasher safe.

Chef's Planet Citrus Juicer White Review

Chef's Planet Citrus Juicer White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been juicing lemons a lot lately, and I had a little 3 part gadget that had a bottom, a middle piece that had the pointed juicer part, and strainer to catch seeds, and then a rounded top that you would use to push the fruit down on to the juicer. It only worked OK, and was a pain to clean. Then I saw a Cooks Illustrated How To cookbook, and they talk about techniques they try and like, and the best method they found for juicing was a manual one(theirs was wood), so I started looking for one, and found this. I have used it several times since, and it is amazing! The juice just pours out! I love the round handle, very comfortable in my palm. I just use a small strainer over my measuring cup to catch any seeds. This is really easy to clean, too!
Edit to add update - now that I have had this a few months and used it a lot, I have to reiterate how great this is! I saw a wooden one in a home store, and I picked it up to test the hand feel, and it was nowhere near as comfortable in my hand, I am so glad I found this one!

Factory-Reconditioned Breville XX800CPXL Remanufactured Citrus Press Review

Factory-Reconditioned Breville XX800CPXL Remanufactured Citrus Press
Average Reviews:

The Breville XX800CPXL Citrus Press is an excellet product that works as well as it looks. I however had a poor experience with the remanufactured units. The unit I purchased intermittently experienced a slow down of the motor. I requested a replacement and Amazon delivered the replacement at no charge in just a few days but the replacement also had bent parts. Between the two units I was able to assemble one good system and I returned the defective parts in the packaging provided. Great service from Amazon, poor quality control on the part of the remanufacctures.

NativeJuicer PRCJ500 Professional Variable Speed Juicer Review

NativeJuicer PRCJ500 Professional Variable Speed Juicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What sold me was the Consumer Digest review which rated the Native Juicer higher than the Breville but for less money--seemed like an easy decision. Perhaps my experience was a fluke and I just got a bad one. But I had a bad feeling from the minute I got the box...it seemed really cheap. The packaging was cheap, the plastic parts seemed on the thin fragile side, and the instructions were a one-pager folded, which read "2-year warranty" not the 7-year I'd seen online. That being said, I never got a chance to find out which it was, 2 or 7 years, as my Native Juicer made this nasty metal on metal sound when trying to juice a soft tomato. This was my 8th glass on this machine and after carefully washing everything, I gave it one last shot. I gave it another tomato and it started smoking, so I just returned it for a refund. I'm not totally sure about this variable speed motor concept. It seems like a lot of problems waiting to happen. Also the thin plastic lid made me nervous with the blade spinning thousands of RPMs. It's probably comparable to a lot of models of similar design, but I don't care, it still seems dangerous. The blue display is nice, but I don't like how the speed knob is just a pot and doesn't have fixed values. On the one hand, what do you expect for under $200, but I'd rather spend more $ and get something that I can enjoy for a while. The pulse button was shallow and felt cheap. Although it didn't work out, for 7 glasses, the juice was pretty awesome and tasty. I got my refund quickly, Michele was very nice and apologetic and the return was painless, so I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.

Amco Enameled Aluminum Lime Squeezer, Light Green Review

Amco Enameled Aluminum Lime Squeezer, Light Green
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have the orange, lemon, and lime squeezers. Ease of squeeze diminishes as size increases and fruit becomes firmer. An older, drier orange would be almost impossible for Hulk Hogan to get a drop out of. A small, juicy lime would be a whiz for an arthritic grandma.
Our objections are, the enamel peels off where the juice contacts it most strongly and repeatedly, so that bits of paint fall in your food preparations; the acid in the juice attacks the bare aluminum and causes pitting; waxy coatings from the fruit which build up on the inside surfaces of the juicers attract dirt and mildew and are virtually impossible to remove; and finally, the pin that holds the pieces together is steel and rusts.
Although these juicers get the juice out, we're now looking for an all stainless steel model with long enough handles so it doesn't take a lot of strength to juice a lemon, and doesn't shed paint and collect crud that can't be removed.

Tristar 70-oz. Jack LaLanne's White Classic Power Juicer, White. Review

Tristar 70-oz. Jack LaLanne's White Classic Power Juicer, White.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Jack La Lane Power juicer and was very disappointed. I returned it after trying it a few times. Carrots would always get stuck in the bottom of the shoot and impede anything else including the stuck carrots from passing through to the blade. I had to keep stopping the juicer to pull the carrots out. I realized that everytime a put a carrot in the juicer, it would get stuck once it got juiced down to the right size to just sit at the bottom of the shoot. Ughhh...so I returned it and got the Jack La Lane "Elite." The only difference was that the "Elite" had a stainless steel cover...it had exactly the same problem..I would never, ever, recommend this juicer to anyone. I ended up going back to my Juiceman Jr which I have had for over 15 years. I had put it in a bag to take to Goodwill, but had to take it out again.I now have a Breville "elite". It DOES NOT JUICE greens well and there seems to be a lot of waste. I'm going to try another brand and if I am still dissatisfied will just stick with my old Juiceman Jr!

Omega O2 1/3-Horsepower Continuous Pulp-Ejection Juicer Review

Omega O2 1/3-Horsepower Continuous Pulp-Ejection Juicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have searched thru hundreds of reviews on a dozen different juicers, and after purchasing the Omega 02 I felt it deserved a little boost to its overall grade.
I have now owned 5 different juicers under the $135 price tag: a department store model; a highly rated 700 watt stainless model available almost everywhere under many names; a OK/nice LeQuip model: the Jack LaLanne model, and now this Omega 02. What a difference it is too.
To begin with, it is by far the best packaged item of all five of them (LeQuip was good). It looks clean and has nice body lines, and works smooth. In comparison, the cheapy is what it is...not much. The all stainless model was not all that well made for the price and jumped all over the place...It did have a similar basket similar to the Omega, but it had a plastic mounting ring and a lightweight blade. The LeQuip is similar to this Omega, but more money and a couple little issues that make it number two on my list. And finally, the Jack LaLanne...it worked OK at first, but with a cheap plastic basket/blade assembly and only a 60 day full warranty it is not worth it at any price. The Jack L is so over-hyped that I would recommend most anything over that device!
So, what is good about the Omega 02? It is compact and does not use a lot of counter space. But it does everything the 3" mouth model can do (in the form of juicing the way a good one should), except you have to cut apples and beets down into slices. And besides, if you juice a lot of apples it is wise not to eat all of those seeds over time(there is much mention of accumulating poison from some seeds)...and lets face it, if you have a big mouth juicer you are going to get lazy and just drop them in seeds and all. Also, other larger fruits that might have a large seed are going to wind up getting chopped and not juiced whole anyway...so cutting is not a really big deal.
What else? It cleans up a LOT easier than the Jack L...largely due to the way the pulp is thrown out of the back and most of it goes straight into the catcher, the way it is supposed to do. **A note for any juicer, put a plastic bag in the catcher and tie it up over the top to make clean up easier and you can save the pulp for compost or meatloaf, etc.** Anyway, some of the tops on other machines get jammed with pulp or have corners that make them hard to clean out. If you can visually see the design of a cover you can more easily determine if it is a smooth arc or a sharply angled model...the smoother the better.
How about power? This version of an Omega has a 1/3 hp, 6300 rpm motor. The Jack L and other cheapies have smaller 1/4 or less motors and some still crank the rpm's to compensate (not good). There is much discussion about rpm's and that lower is better (for reducing oxidation)...but, you cannot find a centrifugal pulp ejector model that is slow enough to compete with the masticator/auger types with reducing the oxidation. So, you need to choose one that can at least separate the juice from the pulp but not be too weak to break. This is why I chose the Omega 02...it is not the full 11,000 rpm 1/3 or 1/2 hp model but it is powerful enough to do the job and strong enough to last as well. Also, don't get caught up in wattage comparisons...watts do not translate directly into horsepower. To grind up tough fruit and veggies, you need horsepower.
If I had to choose another model to replace this one (in the same price range) I would definitely choose this Omega 02 again.
With that said, there are a couple small items to address. First of all, get the black version instead of the white. Or plan to buy the black plastic bowl ring later. This piece of plastic will get stained in short order from carrots and other similar veggies. But it is just a little stain ring around the inside where the basket rides, not bad like other brands. The black plastic will not show this and stay newer looking, longer. But, I will say that even stainless appliances will show wear over time, so use it and enjoy it anyway. Secondly, there is occasional juice that seeps out around the bottom lip of the bowl ring (mentioned above) and the stainless bowl, BUT I have come up with a quick fix: put a small amount of vaseline around the rim of the stainless bowl and then place the white (or black) plastic ring on top before setting the basket and blade into place. Juice will not seep out, and it will not come in contact with your juice either. It does not affect cleanup! When it is time to break the unit down, it merely washes off in hot water. FYI, the LeQuips have the plastic ring formed onto the stainless bowl...stops the seepage, but is a real pain to clean since it does not come off of the bowl.
OK, hopefully that is enough to make it worth your time reading this whole thing and help in decision making.
I would recommend the Omega 02 to anyone...I got it for $90 shipped and I would only consider a couple of other models over this one (maybe) but they will cost 2 to 21/2 times this price (Omega Big Mouth or 4000). And the only reason for considering them is a longer warranty (10 or 15 instead of 3) and larger machines for a little more processing power (but I didn't need more).

Enjoy healthy great-tasting juice quickly and easily with this electric fruit-and-vegetable juicer. Best of all, a receptacle bin in the back of the unit catches fruit and vegetable refuse for convenient disposal and simple cleanup. Hamilton Beach 51101B Personal Blender with Travel Lid, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 51101B Personal Blender with Travel Lid, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for my 17 year old son to make smoothies. He made the most delicious peach smoothie from ice and the Big Train Fruit Tea Smoothie Blast syrup also bought on Amazon. The consistency was smooth and perfect, just like a professional frozen drink. I asked him to make me one. On the second smoothie the motor died. We thought maybe it needed a little "rest" but sadly, it was the end of the road for that blender. When pressed for details, my son admitted that he noticed a burning smell before the motor stopped dead, and yet he kept pressing that button! Bottom line: great design, lightweight, nice personal cup size, easy storage and cleanup. The motor is just not very powerful, and can't take long blending times. Still, we are going to order a replacement and see if a bit more TLC while blending gives this blender better shelf life. Seems like it worked for some of the other reviewers.
Update: we got the new blender and it is working out great. You just have to be careful to pulse the blender as you go along, and stop for a few seconds (10?) if you start to smell the motor smell. Ice is blended into drinks very well, with no big chunks. The only downside is the no dishwasher requirement. I feel pretty tempted to try it, but as this is already the second blender I will resist.

No need to lug out the heavy-duty blender for those morning smoothies, protein shakes, or other blended beverages. When you're trying to get out the door in a hurry, this convenient blender offers one-person portions, simple one-touch blending, and durable stainless-steel blades for fast results. Best of all, its 14-ounce blending jar doubles as a travel cup, so you can sip from the same container you blend in, which means less to clean in the end. The portable travel cup includes measuring marks up the side, and it fits most car cup holders for safe, secure transport. A travel lid to drink from and a recipe book are included. Great for at home or on the go, the 175-watt single-serve blender measures 3-3/4 by 3-3/4 by 12-1/2 inches.

As a natural therapist I have had juicers that cost from $2,600 down to $99. This includes the Norwark, J&J Green Power and the Champion. The reason I recommend Champion juicers is due to the fact that they are the ones that I have found most people will use regularly. this is because the juice is tasty, the power of the motor makes them tough and long-lasting, and they are fairly easy to clean. Plus they can make the frozen fruit ice cream with a Champion.
I just bought one for my adult daughter and she is thrilled. My first Chapmpion is still going strong after 20 years of nearly daily use. It makes good quality juice, fast and easy. I have used mine to prepare juice for up to 20 people and never had one problem with it.
Cleaning is easy. Assembly is easy. I never filter my juice. Taste is great if you use good quality fruits and vegetables. If you want a juicer that will last your lifetime I can highly recommend this one.

An excellent juicer, has more power than any I could find in this price range. The motor does not wind down, all the pulp is ejected into the back container providing clean juice! I compared 6 juicers to this one and none could compare to its power. No problems with this at all since I purchased it and I use it every day. I like the stainless steel top where the extractor fits over, most other Juicers have plastic. This juicer is fast, fairly quiet, and in quality and power, it compares to juicers in the $300+ range. It is very easy to clean and operate. You can't go wrong with this at its price!

Toastess TCJ-346 Silhouette Stainless-Steel Citrus Juicer Review

(More customer reviews)
I bought this model of juicer after manually juicing tons of citrus from my dad's farm. I chose this model for it's attractiveness since I knew it would be left out on my countertop. It is simple to use and convenient and looks nice. It is fairly loud, however, and the spout where the juice comes out gets clogged occasionally and has to be unplugged. It can sometimes be unclogged by simply clicking the spout up and down. The spout can be pushed up to lock it closed and prevent the juice from coming out until you put a container under it. It comes apart very easily and is easy to wash. The only other thing I would say is that the spout could be a little higher so that you can fit taller containers underneath it. It sure beats the hassle I had been going through manually juicing and is way faster!

Enjoy freshly squeezed citrus juice with this easy-to-use electric juicer. The unit provides two reamers that accommodate both small- and large-size fruits--from lemons and limes to oranges and grapefruit. Simply cut the desired citrus fruit into two pieces, cutting across the sections, then gently press each half of the fruit onto the reamer. The citrus juicer will start and stop automatically, extracting juice from the fruit. Collect juice in the removable container or have it pour directly into a glass. The juicer's sloped design maximizes the flow of juice, while its mess-free, anti-drip sealable spout neatly directs juice into a separate container or can be flipped up to stop the flow of juice. Other thoughtful details include a stainless-steel filter and spout, four suction-cup feet to stabilize the juicer during operation, a handy dust cover, built-in cord storage, and dishwasher-safe removable parts for quick cleanup. Attractively housed in stainless steel with black accents, the citrus juicer measures approximately 7-1/2 by 6 by 11-1/2 inches.

Omega 9000 Juicer Review

Omega 9000 Juicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Omega 9000 juicer is a good juicer.
I've had an Acme 6001 for years and it has served me well. When it was time for a new juicer, I bought the Breville since it was such a "hot item".
Big mistake! Unless you want it to "keep up with the Joneses" and think having a big shiny juicer in your kitchen is more about prestige and less about health, then the Breville is for you.
Back to the Omega. The Omega 9000 makes pulp feel like a shirt. It's pretty dry.
Big up to Amazon & HealthNut for it's speedy pick up of the Breville and quick delivery of the Omega (2 days), which is actually well-designed and has good yield.
Now for the cons: carrot residue sticks to the bottom and along the periphery of the basket which goes inside the bowl. It took me a long time to scrub off. Maybe a filter will help, but I never had that problem with the Acme and it was built many moons ago in the 90's. If it wasn't for that design flaw, I'd give it another star.
One last thing. Make sure you process the fruit & vegetables in the right order. For some reason, if you put, say, cucumber and parsley first, before the carrot, the juicer will flip out and do a dance on the counter. I experienced this w/ the Acme as well. So go slow at first & read the tips about what to process first & how.
Cheers.

Champion Juicer Grain Mill Attachment Model G-90 Review

Champion Juicer Grain Mill Attachment Model G-90
Average Reviews:

It is a grain mill, so if you buy it to mill dry grain, it is exactly what it will do. It will not dance, cook supper, or sing for you.
It is built like a tank and very powerful. I think it is likely to last forever. It grinds much faster than by hand :)
It is also much cheaper than comparable Kitchenaid unit that attaches to Kitchenaid mixers.
It has easy adjustment for coarse and fine grinding, and it can grind any dry grain to dust. It is not for oily or soft grain. Check Champion website before buying to know exactly what is and is not recommended for grinding with this unit.
Ignore the negative review for this product. It is posted by someone on a vendetta against Champion and does not reflect true nature of the product, OR the company!

I purchased this "manual" juicer for my husband. He loves to cook and we did not have a juicer. He asked for just a manual one (didn't want an automatic), but my mother has a glass one and I thought it was better than the usual plastic juicers. We like this one because of the "cup" that's with it. It's very easy to use and once you juice the fruit, then you just pour the juice into the recipe (or glass). The item is simple, easy to use and easy to clean. My only suggestion would be to have additional tops to use with varying sizes of fruits.
